Eldorado in Germany

The poster we designed for the movie "Où est l'Eldorado" ( → http://www.ouestleldorado.be ) was posted somewhere in Germany, where the film was shown.

Today is the day we're really proud to have been ripped off by one of our favourite studio from Germany.
They litterally took the Witches Arise Font we designed with Elsa ( → http://www.thinkink.fr ) one year ago, changed the name to Benjamin Font and used it for their client Die Weltwoche.

It was not hard work as the font was freely distributed through the site of the movie it was designed for → http://www.aninsaneportrait.us/

Check the images below, even the PDF to present the work is an exact copy of the one we made.
They just changed the letter "Q", the "K" and enlarged a little bit the "H".
Were these letters that bad? Maybe. Or not.

One thing we have to admit is that they use it very well (check the double spread for the Weltwoche magazine).

Oh, and today we have to decide which studio will be our next favourite.

48p / 48h — My Monkey rules !

Our Workshop last week in Metz went very well. Anaïs (former intern at plmd) posted some words about it in her blog, Editus Enormitum. It's in french and believe me, these are lovely words ;)

My monkey (représenté par Frédéric Rey, Pierre Smeets, Broleskine, Nicolas Belayew et Morgan Fortems) était invité à occuper activement le hall de l'ESAMM durant les deux journées professionnelles sur le thème de l'édition, les 24 et 25 février 2010.

“Nous avons décidé de produire une édition en 48h chrono de l'idée jusqu'à la vente en passant par le rédactionnel et la production. Nous avions à notre disposition un copieur, la valise à sérigraphier de Nicolas, une pile de vieux exemplaires du magazine "le chasseur français" et tout ce que nous pouvions recycler sur place.

48 heures = 48 éditions x 48 pages chacune.

Le résultat est une édition décrivant le processus d'édition (une sorte de mise en abîme de notre action), la question du temps et jouant le rôle de compte-rendu de ces deux journées de conférences.

L'idée en quelques mots :

- A notre arrivée nous avons disposé un poster constitué de 48 pages A4 jaunes numérotées. Ces feuilles ont ensuite été intégrées au livret de chaque édition afin de le rendre unique et de numéroter chaque exemplaire.

- Pour la couverture, nous avons recyclé et sérigraphié  (3 couches de trames + un '48' en outline) les couvertures de vieux numéros du magazine "Chasseur français.

- les pages intérieures sont pliées (le pli est de plus en plus petit)et imprimées sur le repli rendant visible le temps défilant.

- Les 24 premières pages contiennent des citations "samplées" et décontextualisées ainsi que des illustrations produites par certains des intervenants. Sur ces pages, la numérotation est remplacée par un pourcentage, représentant l'avancement du processus. Il définit des trames d'intensité de gris imprimés sur les rabats de 0 à 100% de densité (d'accomplissement).

- les 24 pages suivantes présentent des images de notre processus ainsi qu'une image des distributeurs de boissons présents dans le hall. Cette photographie se dégrade progressivement par application de la trame définie par le premier cahier.

- la reliure est cousue avec une simple machine à coudre.

- des marque-pages ont été réalisés en sérigraphiant des brochures présentes dans l'école.

- un poster présentant les 48 couvertures des 48 éditions a été imprimé pour présenter le résultat final, au terme des 48h de l'intervention.”

Personnellement, je trouve ça génial. Particulièrement la pagination-barre de chargement. Et le poster disséminé dans les exemplaires. Et le pliage progressif. Et les marques-pages recyclés. Et tout. Comme quoi le temps est une contrainte qu'il faut savoir utiliser intelligemment.

Marina & Nicolas. Books to assemble.

We designed a book for Marina & Nicolas for their show at Grand-Hornu. It was a bit complex for our printer to assemble it on the short deadline we had. We chose to do it ourselves. We received all the separate pages of the book and we're currently assembling everything together. This is so much fun ^^.

Magazine #52

In december we designed and art directed the Magazine #52,
a french magazine about magazines, but not only.
We still haven't found the time to shoot it (and many other work)
but we hope to do it very soon and update the portfolio.
